I also finished it recently, was surprised at how short it was. I also really liked it, something I didn't expect was how the best stalkers were all locals, they weren't scummy treasure hunters at first, just guys whose town had got blasted by forces beyond their comprehension and now had to risk their lives just to step in the neighborhoods they grew up in. Also surprised it predated Chernobyl by so much.

Something I read that had the same sense of peril in every footstep and beautiful corrupting artifacts was Made in Abyss
