What does /lit/ think of the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett?

I'd second Discworld series - amusing, literate, not overly burdened with grimdark or seriousness. Sometimes insightful (the author isn't a total hack).

Downsides - terrible covers, earliest novels are much patchier

Finally started making my way through Discworld and I'm loving it. What's some other good lighthearted fantasy? I read everything Douglas Adams years ago.

I've recently fallen into the discworld books- currently I'm about 2/3 of the way through 'Thief of Time' (and I'm sort of upset that this is the last 'Death' book.) The boner that I have right now for Susan could be used to club bears to death. What do I do about this?

Hello /lit/. I've recently gotten into the Discworld novels, and so far I've read Guards, Guards! and Mort. My question to you is: is it worth reading the first books of the other series (The Colour of Magic, Last Rites) and decide where to go from there, or should I just continue with these and come back to the others? Most people have told me that the City Watch and Death books are the best.

So, I'm trying to get my sister to read books that aren't Harry Potter, Twilight, etc, and I figured "Why not try Discworld?" The only problem is that I'm not sure which book to start her on. Don't say Colour of Magic/The Light Fantastic, as they're very different from even the next book in the series, and I want to give her a better overview than the Rincewind stories.

tl;dr: which is the best Discworld book to start with?
