Why are western fiction writers such cuckolds? You never see anything like this in japanese fantasy.

Because those western authors don't know how to write, they've been so warped by today's standards and definition of romance that the old fashioned concept man and woman fall in love without any love triangles, unnecessary drama, cuckery, forced bittersweet endings etc. Most western fantasy fans are the same in that they think what they're getting is "subverting expectations" when they're actually just getting shitty writing.

If you want a good example of what I'm talking about look at pic related. This is consider a good and compelling fantasy romance these days.
