What could ever be the reason for a non-artist to "study" art?

I teach in my field (music), but for the life of me, I still can not understand why someone who isn't going to write music would want to go beyond basic theory necesarry to appreciate the more complex art.

Why would anyone who isn't going to write ever "study" art in-depth? It breeds persistent misconceptions about both creating and consuming art, because people thinking up theories really do neither. The whole musical academic establishment consists of failed composers or those who never even wanted to compose, who prepare works for no discernible reason.

Modus operandi always is
>purposefully misunderstand a work of art
>try to understand it in a way that somehow elevates the reader above previous readers
>>early XXth: and the author
>>late XXth: and the concept of art
>record it
>it can't be disproven, because it's based on made-up preconceptions
>it's stored in a network of similar unprovable thoughts
>and called "canon"

You know what art criticism is most like? Star Trek, Harry Potter etc. fanbase. It's fanboyism and fangirlism that's gone too far and is actively making sure the art of work will not be appreciated by future generations by violently misinterpreting it and building on top of it a network of belief that gradually loses it's touch with the original work.

Hey, /lit/. I read really fucking slowly, and it's seriously hampered my ability to enjoy reading. I haven't finished a book in about 2 years, when I used to be a voracious reader up til high school. Anything I can do about that?

(Note: The response to any answers akin to "Just read more dumbass," will be an implicit, "No shit, Sherlock," as well as guaranteed inclusion on my Bruce Willis Hit List.)

Pic Unrelated.

I want hadcore sex.
Hardcore fondling of the breasts.
A boy with an obsession with his kin.
The ones chopped up and fixed in bins :D

I want to fuck. Just FUCK.
Every little thing I see, the dead ones too.
Give their little tits a rough sucky suck.
Caress their scalps with my shitty poo.
Haha, childish derogatories! :D
Haha, sexual purgatory!

A little dildo inside of me.
A little spooning real rough.
I want to fuck and make innocence not that.
Not that. Not good. Just fucking. Cocks.
Worthless cunts. Mhm, cunts.
Cunts I want. I want cunts.
I need to fuck a cunt.
