I read an intere book about Derrida telling me that Deconstruction isn't a philosophy, a theory, a method or a doctrine. Deconstruction is an event that cannot be explained.

I watched Then&Now and School Of Life video about him and still I didn't quite understand what is Deconstruction.

Why do people associate or confuse these two with each other so much? Even as a person who admittedly isn't extremely well read on either topic, isn't postmodernism characterized explicitly by its rejection of grand, traditional narratives such as Marxism?

Is it true that the culture, mythology, history, etc. of a place must be understood before looking into and understanding said place's philosophy and how it shaped the individuals from there?
Or can philosophy simply be learned on its own, as the ideas themselves, largely divorced from those things?

Between these two, who do you think was right, or more right? Do you think their dispute is a particular instance of a more general issue of the intractable differences between analytic and continental philosophy?

I think that making people feel guilty about only knowing one or two philosophers is a good idea, this promotes diversity.
