Any epic sci-fi/fantasy series that scales planets/countries and has a fuck ton of characters like pic related? Something preferably written in the 80s/90s/21th century.
I've already read ASOIAF, and am familiar with Brandon Sanderson, Bakker, Joe Abercrombie, Peter F. Hamilton, Gaiman, Neal Stephenson, Alastair Reynolds, Greg Bear, Gene Wolfe, Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein.
So anything you suggest by them I've probably already heard of.

There is one and only one anime to watch upon finishing a novel as epic in scope as War & Peace...
And that is this majestic masterpiece,

Legend of the Galactic Heroes.

>meets his intellectual match Yang Wen-li, creating an awesome dynamic the likes of which I have yet to see in anime
>awesome cast of characters on both sides
>this is War and Peace if War and Peace were an anime in space (almost)

Watch the original, all 110 episodes.

If you get high, roll up some nice fat ones.
If you drink wine or shots, get the cheese or pizza ready.
Call up some friends, or get your girl to watch this too, she might like it.
You are in for one incredibly epic ride.
