ITT: We discuss the Star Wars Expanded Universe

Now, I wouldn't try to argue that this belongs in a discussion of literature, but on the same token there is no real discussion of "books" that aren't pretending to be literature. I read literature surely but I also realize that reading can also be entertainment: I do not believe we must completely ignore books that don't have value as literature (why then would you read Lord of the Rings?)

I am moderately interested in the Star Wars Expanded Universe, and I am not ashamed to say so. I think that reading about the Clone Wars, the Mandalorians, and the Sith is very rewarding. I suppose what I am obtaining from this is "entertainment," but it's really just an extension of the kind of entertainment I would find from watching the movies. You might argue there is no reason to watch the movies either, but nevertheless.

Let's talk about the Star Wars Expanded Universe. What is your favorite book or books in it? Your favorite author? I very much like the Republic Commando series. I loved the game when I was a teenager and I still think they're good books. I'm re-reading the first. Never finished the second, and I see there are many more too.

SW:EU thread.
