im a third of the way through The Brothers Karamazov and i don't get it. it's deconstructing christianity but what am i supposed to take away from it? furthermore, is there a certain way to "get" a book and really understand it?

The divide is provisional. You can use it as a rough guide, safe in the knowledge that there will be many instances in which it doesn't seem to hold.

Everyone in this thread is fighting over fucking nothing.

I don't think I've been happy since 15 or 16. Even then I thought of myself as a depressive loser, but I still had friends who loved me. I'm past seeing myself as somehow worse off than everyone else though. The truth is nobody's really happy.

If I ever have kids (and the odds are looking slimmer by the day) I will be sure not to give them good expectations for life. It's all a big downward slope from childhood. Nothing could have met expectations, I don't think.
