Guys I'm looking for the word that is often used to describe a form of moral/societal/political apathy/indifference. I don't think it's lethargy...

I think it's a major theme in Brave New World, and generally most dystopian works like A Clockwork Orange, but I can't find the actual name of the word.

There is a distinct chance I am fooling myself and that I'm on a wild-goose-chase, but I'm breaking my head and I just want to know. Google and Wiki couldn't help, maybe you can...

What does /lit/ think of this book? Is it any good? Better than 1984?

d/ic/k head here
I like to do little sketches when I read a book as a mental exercise.
What are some great books with great imagery/descriptions?

pic related, it's what I'm reading now.

First person to mention Tolkien gets their anus raped by a barbed dildo.

Are there any interesting anti (modern)western culture(by western culture I mean things like consumerism, need to be entertained 24/7, technology, use of drugs, etc) books that aren't written by complete nutters? I feel like my cultural values aren't challenged enough so I'd like to try and change that.

Just to give you something to go off of I'm think of things like Brave New World, the TV series Black Mirror and these two Sleater-Kinney songs(Modern Girl and Entertain)

Why is this considered a dystopian novel?

The society described in it seems pretty much perfect. It's literally built around what will make people happy.
People love their jobs, love the recreational activities, and from what I understand crime is basically nonexistent.
To top it off, if you are for some reason unhappy with the society you can live on an island or reservation where you can do whatever the fuck you want, and live with like-minded people.

The only downside I can think of is the shortened lifespans, and that's pretty much it.

My dad died in a car crash yesterday. I'm leaving school and going home to be with my family/ sort through all of his things. Really want a book to read that isn't religious or about father son relationships. Ideas, /lit?

>mfw people still don't realise this is utopia
>mfw they cling to some arbitrary notion of what makes someone human
>mfw they include in this notion aspects of life they spend their lifetime to avoid
>mfw when presented with success in this endeavour they panic

Why are people who are involved in progress ultimately against progress? Why don't they see that something like BNW is the logical end of our collective endeavours? Why don't they embrace it?
