These are /lit/'s top 100 books of 2021. I recommend you start with Crime and Punisment and Moby Dick because they are the most standard and straight forward "good books" I can think of. Great way to start.

If you want to have a better atention span, learn some new words and bragging rights.
As with everything you do in life, reading is what you make of it. If you're just looking for a new outlet of mindless, cheap entertainment read some fiction like Tolkein or something. If you want to actually learn some stuff and you're looking for transcendence and soul enrichment, pick up the classics, the Bible and start looking into philosophy. Don't be intimidated by this place because very few people actually read here.

Sadly, even though I'm 23, I've never seriously read (other than textbooks) for most of my life. I want to become more literate and well spoken, so in the last month I decided to read "Fahrenheit 451" and "flowers for algernon" and found out that I really enjoy reading! Every book on this list seems very interesting to me, but I want to know which books I should start reading first as a begginer. Thank you
