Wind-Up and I'm also reading Pip Pip: A Sideways Look At Time by Jay Griffiths. It's a book about time, so far. I'm hoping it will become more like Jay's other book Wild:An Elemental Journey which I really loved reading at the start of this year.

Wind-up is good so far, 100 pages in. It reminds me of Kafka on the Shore the most, out of everything else I've read by him. I've been thinking a lot while reading wind-up, I've come to the idea that Haruki is a really relaxing writer and his work might put lots of people off because they have a purposeful mundane feeling. But he usually makes the mundane interesting.

Does he ever get back to Kumiko and the sexy phone-calls and the dream hotel and the kanos and noboru wataya and basically any of the stuff he wrote about in the first 2 books? I've been reading about cinnamon and nutmeg for like the last 100 pages now and I'm starting to get fucking sick of it. They're not interesting characters. I'll be honest I absolutely loved the first two books (I know that might not endear me much to /lit/) but this third is a real disappointment so far.

Is there any way for an english-speaking american to read The WInd-Up Bird Chronicle in it' full, unadulterated form? From what I've heard the american translation contains not only noticeable differences, but also cuts to the actual content.

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami

I'm re-reading the beginning for the third time I think. I enjoy the book, but I've never finished it. This time I will though.

I allways start into books with high spirits devouring the first half but then I realize I have to bring myself to finish it or find myself skipping boring passages so i am finally done with it and can start something new.
