So is infinite jest worth reading either unironically or to understand the meme? I know nothing about it, the meme, or the author.

>Christianity is dying its still the biggest religion in the world and still funds an entire country b-but i heard some magazine say church attendance is down.
>s-socialism is atheist, ignore all the missionary work for hundreds of years. . . i worked at a soup kitchen once, it was a christian soup kitchen but that's besides the point.
>i don't hate gays so I'm morally buoyant in my contribution to the world already; sure i have not fought for any gay rights or done any activism, but when i see a news story about some ultra consrevaticve hate group i make sure to post on my facebook something like: "oh look at our supposed moral leaders" to let people know that "religion" isn't all its cracked up to be.
>i know i'm on the "right side of history"
>morality can exist without god. s-sience or something guys

>"yesterday I read an article... if was as if she'd addressed it directly to me.... (it) says that during puberty girls withdraw into themselves and begin thinking about the wondrous changes taking place in their bodies. I feel that too....Sometimes when I lie in bed at night I feel a terrible urge to touch my breasts and listen to the quiet, steady beating of my heart. Unconciously, I had these feelings even before I came here. Once when I was spending the night at Jacque's, I could no longer restrain my curiousity about her body...I asked her whether, as proof of our friendship, we could touch each other's breasts. Jacque refused. I also had a terrible desire to kiss her, which I did. Every time I see a female nude, such as the Venus in my art history book, I go into ectasy..."

I am so fucking hard

my understanding are gender differences and even the penis are mechanisms to control our kundalini orientation during the Amen (Imin) cycle of darkness.
When we come back into light, our kundalini energy goes straight up perhaps beyond the understanding chakra, leading me to believe these were the origins of deity worship.
When we come back into full circular consciousness, 360 senses, we embody both the masculine and the effeminate.

Science can't make philosophy obsolete because it rests on a philosophical foundation regarding the nature of knowledge, how we can acquire it, and whether it can be trusted. The predominant and most influential theory, which allows science to exist and be useful, is called the "correspondence theory of truth", developed initially by Aristotle. It's the idea that things are true or false based on how they relate to reality or accurately describe it.

e.g., "The earth orbits the sun" is true, because it accurately describes the earth's relation to the sun in reality.

Without this philosophic position on the nature of truth, or without any philosophic position on it, there cannot be any scientific inquiry or knowledge of what is or isn't true. It's almost like saying "poetry makes language obsolete".
