I've never read an exposition of the female and male psyche like in this book. The book shows the logical conclusion of a man who is conquered by female mysticism and lust.

Why is this never discussed anywhere?

Post underrated books you don't see other people posting about much on here or elsewhere

Naomi by Tanizaki. My favorite work of fiction. It's about a man who falls in love with a poor 15 year old waitress from a trashy family, he intends to make her into his ideal wife by molding her over the years.

As the story goes on, this girl turns the tables and ends up making him submit to her. It's an incredible exposition of female pathology and the power dynamics in relationships, as well as the subject of men submitting to their lusts. 10/10 fiction

I'm looking for the best Japanese novels. I've read Soseki's Kokoro, Tanizaki's Naomi, and Mishima's The sound of waves.

I love Japanese writer's ability to do a psychological exposition on realistic characters. I feel like there's nothing that compares.

Should I start digging into Dazai?

I read this and it instantly became my favorite novel of all time.

Does anyone know of anything else similar to it? I've been suggested Lolita but that just looks completely degenerate

I bought this off of Amazon on a whim. I just skimmed the bio and thought it sounded neat.

After reading it, it instantly became my favorite novel of all time. Does anyone know of any other books similar to this?

I've heard Tanizaki's other books aren't as good

I randomly ordered this off of Amazon knowing nothing about the author, I just thought the plot summary sounded interesting.

This is by far one of the most intense novels I've ever read. I was literally sweating while reading it at parts. It is so realistic of "modern" relationships where men become enslaved to a woman's beauty and fully submit to them.

Who else has read this book?

This book unironically gave me a panic attack, I had sweat pouring when he was trying to figure out if Naomi had cheated on him, and then I teared up a bit when he was heart broken.

I had an identical experience to the character of this book. I started dating a girl when she was 14 and I was 16. When we started dating she was extremely shy, and cute. She was so shy that she had a hard time actually talking sometimes, she just liked to sit silently or lay in my arms. I gave her a social life, gave her confidence, and gave her a social network.

By the time she turned 18, she had developed double-D breasts, a gigantic ass, and started spending tons of money on trendy slutty clothes. She had become so confident she completely cucked me and thought of me as a complete joke. She had men in their 30's hitting on her, literal MARRIED MEN hitting on her everywhere she went, every job she had. I couldn't fucking stand it, and freaked out, and then we broke up. I then spent a full year in a complete obsessive melt down, which she fully took advantage of and treated me like a play-thing in between dating her new boyfriends.

The way this books describes the process of watching a formerly sweet and shy girl evolve into a hot benevolent slut was DEAD ON. It was like re-living the entire experience all over again, my heart was literally racing.

Has anyone else read this?
