You cannot convince them. It is a particular way of seeing within the modern era and only those capable of seeing beyond it will understand.
It is better to get a sense of why this type of art came about and if there are any positive aspects, or at least a potential response that doesn't fall into the same type of short-sightedness. Perhaps there even is some sense and meaning to this art, however, this does not need to imply acceptance or participation. It is only from this perspective that a response would be possible. They have captured the surface of the mare tenebrosum, but perhaps there is something far beneath.
Rather than this art being ugly it may just be bad, yet no political response has been strong enough to return the horizon to the center of the image. In this sense, both the modern painters and their opposition have participated in this artistic work that is worse than evil.
