This dumb idiot in my white ass private school sent me his term paper. This kid is in gr 12 and gets shit marks and constantly smokes weed and is the biggest faggot ever.
This is his term paper about Conrad, Achebe and African Poetry.

Through the Heart of Darkness and Things Fall Apart we can see that a single bad example can cause a colonizer to deem a culture savage through stereotyping. Colonizers use the stereotypes, as well as their power to exploit the African people and their resources.
The innate differences between the colonizers and the colonists are clear. The colonizer believes in the stereotype and nothing else. The African people assume that the colonizers have pure intentions and only seek to help.

hey /lit/, I wanted to learn myself summa dat political philosophy, and was planning on buying books in increments. Unfortunately, I only bought the first increment. Other books I have to get ahold of are Capital, City of God, Two Treasties On Government, and The Spirit of the Laws. I have these five books:
>The Republic
>Leviathan
>The Social Contract
>Utopia
>Machievelli's Discourses

What order would /lit/ recommend reading these in? Are there any other works (besides the ones I've mentioned) that I should get ahold of? My friend also gave me a collection of Robespierre's speeches entitled "Virtue and Terror, presented by Zizek. I plan on reading it last (unless /lit/ recommends otherwise), and I'm more interested in Robespierre's words than Zizek's. Judging from what /lit/'s said, that's probably a good thing, though.

Describe what you think the writer meant from this line:
"Those who remember yesterday and today, will forget now, and will remember tomorrow forever".
WHAT THE HELL DO I WRITE AS A RESPONSE TO THAT?.... Fuck I hate English class. Thanks guys.

Hey /lit/. I've been working on a VERY rough draft of a novel for the past few days and was hoping to get some criticism. Keep in mind that I have very little experience writing. I'll post a snippet of the first chapter and if you guys are interested then I'll post the whole thing. Just to give a bit of context the story is a sort of WW3 scenario that involves several shady terrorist and paramilitary organizations as well as conventional nations.

>Trainspotting
uh, no

>Thin Red Line
Book was very different to movie. Book was quite a tradition war story, movie was more like a spiritual war between man and nature. Both are good, but not at all equivalent. Loved the movie though

>High Fidelity
Jack Black made the movie better than the book. The minor characters in the book weren't very interesting.

"The privilege of the phonè does not depend upon a choice that might have been avoided. It corresponds to a moment of the system (let us say, of the "life" of "history" or of "being-as-self-relationship"). The system of "hearing/understanding-oneself-speak," [s'entendre parler] through the phonic substance—which presents itself as a non-exterior, non-worldly and therefore non-empirical or non-contingent signifier—has necessarily dominated the history of the world during an entire epoch, and has even produced the idea of the world, the idea of world-origin, arising from the difference between the worldly and the non-worldly, the outside and the inside, ideality and non-ideality, universal and non-universal, transcendental and empirical, etc."
Of Grammatology

Why /lit/? Why would some even do this? Much less call it philosophy?

http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/high-school-life/556093-how-long-do-you-take-read-100-pages.html

>How long do you take to read 100 pages
In a normal novel?

>2 hours i think
>Probably 2~ish hours as well.
>i think 2 hours too
>about an hour
>I'd say more than 1 but less than 1.5

Am I slow reader or is '100' an American number that equals much less in our counting?
