I'm currently watching the BBC/A&E 1995 adaptation of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. What's /lit/'s favorite adaptation of the novel, and why?

I think the most recent one was good up until the ending.

The old Black and White one from the '30s (IIRC) was neat, in so far as it gives an interpretation several decades removed from us.

As to the 70's BBC production, I have no strong feelings one way or another. I consider it the 'base' against which other adaptations are judged.

I read the first few chapters of Sense and Sensibility the other day, because I've never read Jane Austin before.

What the fucking fuck? Is this book going to be a dialog about buying into wealth and discussing potential husbands for the next 300 pages? It's dialog, dialog, dialog, endless dialog about "Well, he expresses interest for drawing and sketching but he doesn't seem to show that they can truly appreciate or understand drawing and sketching..." ? And the bits that aren't dialog might as well be, endless narrative summary about how so-and-so did this-and-that and owns mansion-McWho-gives-a-fuck?

What is this, /lit/? Does Ms. Austin get better? Does substance eventually meander its way into the story and I have to bog through chapters of bullshit to get to it?
