The main differences behind what led to the diversity of Negro subraces was their masters.

Continental European masters were typically harsh. Death was not uncommon as a punishment. As a result there was an evolutionary pressure for intellect. Those smart enough to both avoid making mistakes and avoid their masters ire were the ones who survived to breed.

British Negros were the product of the peculiarities of British society. The few slaves they could educate to the point where they could be allowed in the house as a household servant would often be the ones able to seduce the most women and thus breed more profusely. These tendencies were also often present in mainland Europe in conjunction with the rampant abuse oddly enough.
