Which version of the Bible should I read? I'm interested in the background it provides for western literature, so I'm not looking for modernized or abridged versions.

Which Bible is best for me as I am looking to read it as a literary text? Even though im catholic, im looking for a middle ground bible, one that is readable but also complex enough in its diction that it would somewhat resonate with me, so KJV is fine but give your reasons for your choice.
