What books will provide me with a solid foundation in Greek and Roman philosophy without having to read primary sources.

I'm writing short stories but I'm not nearly as well read as I should be. What are some great short stories, collections, authors, analyses, or even philosophy that I should read to optimize my short story writing or literary fiction writing in general? Even books on writing would help, as I've seen noticeable improvement from reading Art of Fiction by Gardner.

What are some fiction books that have lots of wisdom and depth on each page? Ulysses is one for me. Any others like this?

Absolutely. Abso-fucking-lutely. Critics are the worst kind of people. Any critic of a subjective art, who does not have a similar level of experience actually doing that art, is simply not qualified to judge it. There are some academics who might have some knowledge of it but should still not be taken seriously. "Criticism" in the sense that the critic simply dissects what the artist is portraying is different, that's actually extremely helpful, but these fat faggot professors in their sweater vests with an unathenticated autographed copy of The Da Vinci Code from eBay on a shelf next to their framed diploma who trash starving artists from their ivory towers just to feel superior are trying to fill their emptiness with hatred, and they deserve e lifetime of despair that they're digging themselves into with their own actions. Death would be too good for them.

If a work of art has a profound impact on at least one soul, even if it is just the artist himself, then it's priceless.

God I wish the Americans would have carpet bombed Europe, or at least helped us keep parts of it for ourselves after WWII. The Russians did it fine in eastern Europe and would probably still control those countries if it wasn't for the communism. Just imagine how much better this world would be if France and Italy and all those other yuro shitholes were our territory and not independent countries that thought it was okay to trash us.
