I'm going to take up pipe smoking once I get back to the states. Smoked cigs for a while here in Japan, they have great stuff but I layed off it after a while.
I have great memories of practicing with my band at a friend's house while one of the guys dad's smoked a pipe. Heavenly smell on summer nights, plus I think it makes for a long and relaxing smoke

Isn't it more colonial to fill your shelves with foreign works and writings of different ethnicities just for the purpose of showing that you understand the 'other'? Wouldn't the least colonial thing be to just read what you like regardless of the author's background?

I'm interested in reading some non-canonical early christian texts, like Acts of Paul and Thecla, trying to find a compilation with heavy notes or commentaries.

I've been listening to audio courses on the history of christianity and some misc topics, nag hammadi codices and the dead sea scrolls, but I feel like I'm missing the history up to the present day church (how american protestantism gave rise to current western christianity)

I can't seem to find any genuine deep works linking astrological ages/cosmology to various religious scripture, though I am quite sure it exists. For what has apparently been a fundamental part of the development of religion through pagan ages until now, Its oddly barren.
If anyone could point me in a direction of authors that have explicitly engaged in proper esoteric study of this, it would be greatly appreciated.
