thunderous and fantastic. A great book for a terrible age, a must read, like most Bolano's. Would recommend reading Savage Detectives first, though.

I'd say yes, but Bolano is a strange Beast. Savage Detectives sort of gives you a key to his aesthetic and sets a series of recurring themes (and characters) you will find in the rest of his works. For instance, much of his conception of "nazism" in the Third Reich may be difficult to pick up without reading Savage Detectives and maybe also Nazi Literature in the Americas. He often uses "nazism" to make a sort of metaphysical point about evil, rather than a political one. 2666 would definitely help you understand better some themes of the Third Reich. But again, Savage detectives can maybe help you to get into that before. His books are all interconnected, it's like a narrative universe. The more you read of him, the more sense it makes.

What do you think about 2666, I am Chilean as is the author and my language is Spanish, but I'm not sure if I should read it.

This reminds me of something I had wrote when I was younger. You should worry about whether or not the material you put out is melodramatic, suffering from delusions of grandeur, or just juvenile, but 90% of everything that I have written has not and will not see the light of day, so relax. Keep going, because nobody knows whether or not you will strike oil, so keep digging.
