>Entire premise of Buddhism is that there is an eternal cycle of reincarnations where you are bound by karma.
>But the self is an illusion, so whatever reincarnates is not "you", because "you" don't exist.
>As such "you" vanish completely upon death.

Is Buddhism entirely useless by its own metrics?

Is there anyone on this board interested in Buddhism, studying it, practicing it, outside of the context of perennialism or Traditionalism? Do you exist? If so, do you think it's time to abandon ship and stop earnestly discussing Buddhism on this board? That is at least what I'm thinking, since every thread is derailed by people arguing in bad faith.

I was watching this video by jordan peterson on the ideal and it greatly interested me and I wanted to find the relevant literature on this topic. I'm guessing since Jordan Peterson is a Jung fan boy I'm guessing that he got the idea from some Jung book. If this is so could anyone on here inform me as to which book does Jung discuss the ideal?

For anyone interested here is the video I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7Z3CoTgFMA

I'm a Muslim with moderate background in occult philosophy with a theory to propose regarding the afterlife. As a Muslim I believe the Quran to be the word of God and subsequently I hold a belief in Heaven and He'll. But I also don't think that Buddhists are necessarily wrong in their conceptions of life either. I saw somewhere today that the conception of samsara suggests that it is the ego that is subject to death and rebirth rather than the soul. If this is correct, I wonder if it is not the ego that is reborn if one does not reach enlightenment but the soul that resides in heaven or hell until judgement day after death. In this way I can see a coexistence of both ideologies as most Muslims do seem to reject the popular conception of reincarnation but this seems to make sense to me. Say you are very pious but don't reach enlightenment while you're alive. Your soul goes to heaven and "you" are fine, but your ego is subject to rebirth and the effects of karma. Does this sound plausible? And if so, where does your consciousness go? Is it with the soul in heaven or the ego in samsara? It's a hunch I have that could of course be very wrong but I would like some other opinions.
