Let's discuss this. Just finished. Are the sequels worth reading?

Uh... Hi /lit/. It's my first time here. I came for a little advice. I have just finished reading Ender's Game for the first time, and I lkied it. I'm thinking about reading the sequels, but some people have told me that they are shitty. Should I read Speaker for the Dead etc., or not?

What do you think was the significance of Peter and Valentine posing as Locke and Demosthenes and having their essays being considered by people in positions of powers?

Taking it in context to when it was written, how does this concept appear in modern times with the rise of the internet, global communication and the constant exchange of political ideas?

Sup /lit/
Are the sequels worth reading? I don't want another disappointment like 2010: Odyssey Two.

/lit/, what do you think about the Ender's Game series?

I just read Ender's Game for the 2nd time and I'm reluctant to go on. I remember really enjoying Speaker for the Dead but just thinking Xenocide is okay and gave up part of the way through Children of the Mind.

Would it be worth trying again in order of publication, or in chronological order?

Is this worth the read? I'm getting vibes that this book is the type of preteen garbage that is waiting to be turned into a Holywood film saga.

The author also opposed gay marriage

Hey so someone reccomended I come here to brush up on my reading. So, I was wondering if you guys could help me find some books to open up my mind, and help make me more interesting. Pic sort of related, last series I read... it's been awhile since I've done extracurricular reading, sorry.

>Let me tell you about a book I just read.

>It's the story of a young boy who was dreadfully abused by the grown-ups who wanted to mold him into an exemplary citizen. Forced to suppress his own emotions in order to avoid being paralyzed by trauma, he directed his energy into duty rather than sex or love. In time, he came to believe that his primary duty was to wipe out a species of gifted but incomprehensible aliens who had devastated his kind in a previous war. He found the idea of exterminating an entire race distasteful, of course. But since he believed it was required to save the people he defined as human, he put the entire weight of his formidable energy behind the effort to wipe out the aliens.

>You've read it, you say? It's Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card, right?

>Wrong. The aliens I'm talking about were the European Jews, blamed by many Germans for gearing up World War I for their own profit. The book is Robert G. L. Waite's The Psychopathic God: Adolf Hilter.

>I don't know of any pair of novels that have been as consistently misinterpreted as Card's Ender's Game and Speaker for the Dead. Even a reader with a rudimentary knowledge of twentieth century history might be expected to guess that the character of Ender Wiggin, the near messianic superhero, is based on that of Adolf Hitler.

Just finished Enders Game. I rather enjoyed it. But I just saw there are a metric fuckton of other books in the series

Earth Unaware
"Mazer in Prison"
"The Polish Boy"
"Teacher's Pest"
"Pretty Boy"
"Cheater"
Ender's Shadow
A War of Gifts
Ender's Game
Ender in Exile
Shadow of the Hegemon
Shadow Puppets
Shadow of the Giant
Shadows in Flight
Ender in Exile (continued)
"Investment Counselor"
Speaker for the Dead
Xenocide
Children of the Mind
Shadows Alive

Are they worth reading and are they as good as Enders Game? I've started reading Hyperion already though so if the others are worth reading, I'll get to them later.

Also, is Orson Scott Card a pedo? I got a very pedo vibe parts of the book.

For a long time now I have had a desire to read science fiction books of the space genre, like space opera, alien invasions, et cetera. 98% of the books I have read in my life so far have been non-fiction, even though I have a pretty wild imagination as far as space exploration is concerned. After reviewing several "TOP 10/50/100" lists of sci-fi books in this genre, I picked "Ender's Game", it usually appears on top 50/100 lists, as my first to read.

Nothing in space ever occurs in this book and it is only implied that a trip to another planet occurs. This book is a commentary on morality with an 8-year-olds-take-over-the-world-by-writing-political-essays backdrop.

What the actual fuck? This book should never ever ever ever ever be on a top x list for the sci-fi space genre.

Thank you for your attention.

Has anyone enjoyed the Ender's Game series? I just got done some time ago reading the 10th book. (Not listing A War of Gifts: An Ender Story) I really found myself enjoying the whole "Train children to be great generals during a heavy time in earths future only for the kid who does save the human race gets turned into a outcast/taboo for committing Xenocide in time."

I'm really looking forward to the next two books coming out by Orson Scott Card in the Ender's series.

On a side note I have a question: What other good Sci-fi series are out there? Dune is on my list but I haven't gotten around to it.
