Sunk cost fallacy. I dropped Samderson about 1/3 out of ghe 3rd book, Oathbringer. Doesn't mean I'll ever have to finish this shit even though I don't exactly hate it. It's just bland and formulaic and too base for my taste. I've since read way more and better novels and series.
May I suggest Dune?

Messiah is one of the best books in the Dune series, up there with God Emperor and Heretics. Definitely worth.
Children is mediocre in my opinion but has parts which are good (the first half) and parts that are a slog (the later half), especially the Leto and Gurney stuff in the late middle of the book. Ending is very good.

But since we talk about Dune, in my personal opinion Heretics is the best book in the series. That comes after God Emperor. Chapterhouse is not as good but presents interesting new paths for the characters to take and implications following the honored mantra and their enemy.
I wish Frank Herbert finished the series, I really do.

Not a bait. I like the whole plot of endless hordes of people returning from the depths of space after hundreds and thousands of years because (apparently) they weren't able to cope with their new "enemies", whoever Frank Herbert intended the enemy to be in the end, be it highly evolved face dancers wielding biological weapons, or something else.
Teg's ascension at the end of Heretics was perhaps the most awe inspiring scene I've read in any book, except maybe some parts of Book of the New Sun. And at the end of the say, the Honored Matres were a pretty good villain, so alike with the protagonists but so clearly corrupted. Those are always the best bad guys.

Maybe my rating was a little harsh, but Heretics > Chapterhouse = God Emperor maybe.... Good Emperor was especially good in my opinion. I still re-read parts of the book now and again.
