Not much? The Hobbit and LOTR are both pretty accessible to new readers. Then you can read The Silmarillion, which is basically a big history book about everything that happens in Middle-Earth BEFORE LOTR.

Tolkien was a bit autistic in that everything you need to know, he tells you, one way or another.

People couldn't understand my frustration with the Jackson films, since the originals were good. But the thing is they propelled Tolkien from a /lit/ series to a franchise, it brought him fame but not understanding. Most of the movie fans find him too hard to read and just meme about flying the Ring on the Eagle
This happens inevitably to all /lit/ content adapted into a film
Naturally they have also made a shitflix adaptation of Remarque recently, he is also one of my favourite authors, and when I search him up now all I get is the shitflix series

Lord of the Rings (as a whole with the Silmarillion) and War and Peace are the ones that come to mind most readily for me

I am that anon. Reverence does not equal obsession. I just like Europeans' blue eyes and their cultural achievements, I don't fucking want to rape them like a Pakistani in Britain
