Look up on Russell Targ experiments into parascience and Dr Ian Stevenson research into reincarnation, there's absolutely something beyond just materialism. People who say otherwise have never even went into the topic, these people most likely see science as a dogma and would reject anything scientific that doesn't currently match their idea of mainstream science. I would argue it's even worse than a dogmatic religion since they don't involve themselves into science, they just turn speechless everytime something they're wrong instead dogmatic scientist believers will outright reject anything scientific that isn't associated with their ideology. It might be the reason why the influx of innovation has sharply declined over the years

Russell Targ was one of the early proponents of laser science that heavily advanced the field and he worked at NASA then soon the CIA documenting everything
