I ran my book's premise through my professor the other day, and he praised the shit out of it for its originality and intricate narrative structure. He also said that my prose compromised between beauty and brevity.
What I didn't know at the time was that he had driven the last few nails into its coffin. I currently cannot bring myself to bring the novel into fruition. Has anyone else gone through this? When praise drives you to an end?
I'm one of those people who jump around one hobby to another. For whatever reason, I'm now trying to write shitty poetry instead of working on a novel that shows some promise.

What's that phrase-- I believe it may be Latin, or French?-- it basically says "every component is essential" or, like, "every piece has come together to make a perfect whole"?

Hey /lit/ I have a bunch of books I don't care enough for to keep around, mostly a lot of Stephen King books and modern thrillers. I figured a few dollars for paperbacks and a little more for hardcovers would be fine. Is there anywhere in particular I could sell this shit for some chump change?

Hey /lit/ can you critique this story? I have to write one scene toward the beginning, but otherwise it's finished barring peer review.

Hey /lit/ are there any books that might be about the transition of a big-time loser to angry young faggot to school shooter? Doesn't necessarily have to be modern day or even actually involve killing.

Hi /lit/. I want to try to write fiction and have been trying to read a variety of different authors, but could /lit/ suggest any books that might help learn about writing well and getting published?

Once I saw an Anon suggest Changing Planes by Ursula K. Le Guin because apparently it tells a story simply by describing landscapes (I don't know, I haven't read it.)

And another Anon suggested both On Writing and Danse Macabre by Stephen King because they contain down-to-earth advice on getting published in the present day.

Would a guy who didn't care for Three Musketeers (or at least the beginning) enjoy Monte Cristo?

Hey /lit/, how do I find local thrift shops that might be selling obscure books? Probably something I should already know about... Maybe just search areas with a lot of stores. Are there any keywords I could search for on the internet?

it feels like a language of its own. any advice will be appreciated

Hi /lit/. I am trying to write, but I have trouble remembering words... I've been reading a lot lately and have been looking up words I don't know, and I will remember them if I see them again, but I am pretty stupid, I forget words easily. Is there a good way of learning and remembering words? Like just outright studying them maybe?

Hey /lit/. Are there any fantasy/sci-fi books that read like Cortazar's Hopscotch? Like kinda dreamy and whimsical, but still with a plot. Something that is kind of a mind-fuck in the same way as the pic related, perhaps...

Hi /lit/. This isn't directly /lit/-related but maybe you guys can use /lit/-philosophy to help answer my question.

When bin Laden died I thought it was distasteful that people were celebrating and shit. I mean logically I feel like it was the right thing to do because he was a dangerous person.

Then I remembered reading Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and being happy and shit about when Lisbeth essentially violently rapes the guy who had violently raped her, and gives him a tattoo that says he is a rapist and all that.

So ahh, why would I feel gratuitous about what happened to that fictional character but not so much about a person who orchestrated and condones mass murder?

Hi /lit/. I checked my local library and a little while ago I checked #bookz, but I can't find any of the following (in english) anywhere for free. Anyone know where else to check? My mIRC free trial ran out.

The Hearing Trumpet, by Leonora Carrington
Dark Spring, by Unica Zurn
Heartsnatcher, by Boris Vian
Zenobia, by Gellu Naum

Hi /lit/. There's some abandoned psychiatric buildings near where I live that I've explored a handful of time. Are there any good or at least decent books that are about exploring abandoned buildings? Like not "boo haunted house!" type stories where it is only used as a setting. More like something that will give me feels, or something thoughtful.

Rather than something 2spooky4me, I think I'm looking for the literary version of Boards of Canada songs, for example...

For example, emailing it to yourself so your email service records the time and date? Is there a better way?

Hey sexy people of /lit/. I'm introverted, have low self esteem, usually hard to motivate, and am afraid of talking to girls. Any fiction or philosophy out there that might change my life? Or at least get me to think about my life enough that I'd want to change it?

Hi /lit/. I know nothing about philosophy. I read a bit about Socrates in college, I read the Fountainhead, the Grand Inquisitor (went way over my head) and maybe some other bits here and there.

What would /lit/ recommend I read to learn a variety of philosophical views?

Taking a semester off due to severe anxiety problems, and I feel like an absolute failure. Never used to have this kind of problem. Anyway, instead of feeling like I'm wasting all of my time, I want to read really good books.

tl;dr genuinely interested in educating myself while not in college - what should I read
