It's something I've been ranting about for decades.

Book of the New Sun is my favorite book of the past and all the infinite multitude of futures. I must have read it to completion at least 9 or 10 times, and many more times through reading certain chapters and parts of it. Interestingly enough, I never did read anything beyond it. No Long/short sun, no Urth. I fear it would spoil the sheer delphic quality, the mystery about Severian's journey and all it's consequences.

>There is a payment made by Nature to those who undergo hardships; it is that the lesser ones, at which people whose lives have been easier would complain, seem almost comfortable.
This particular quote has resonated with me at the basest, most primordial level.

Ooh, I like this...
The presence of God is everywhere in existence. Yes. I also believe that God is, in the most practical sense, the sum of all the universal processes. Anything with a sufficiently large amount of processes is conscious, and so I think God is the active universal consciousness. Every star, even our Sun, HAS to have some form of consciousness. We ourselves have consciousness and we're so vastly limited compared to what's out there. The universe as a whole NEEDS to be alive.
And that's God.

The MC sees for the first time one of these things. I decided to call them Fulminants (temporary name) to hint at the lightning-fast action and explosiveness of their strikes.
It's in a painting, and the thing itself is highly stylized by the artist so that it looks more like an armour with wings, rather an what it really looks like.
The story is coming along fine, I haven't had such a drive to do something in years.

I decided to follow through and write my novel. I mean I already started writing it, but I'm only about 8k words so far, and at the end of the day, thinking does nothing against writing. So I'm just going to write, and write, and see what comes of it.
Also checked out Iron Dragon's Daughter and it's nothing like I'm doing, so I'm safe in that area.

Look at this beauty. The grumman F-14 tomcat, now imagine something like this flying overhead in a supersonic roar, shaking the earth, cracking the windows, felling men on their knees in despair. And then come the missiles, an endless stream of fire and brimstone compressed in that instant of impact.
Now all you year is the hissing if its passing, and the obvious cries of the injured and the dying. All it took for their conqueror is one single moment. Nothing else. And nothing could have stopped it, not your bow and arrows, not your prayers, not your kneeling in despair.

How in the world do you even fight this thing?
