Are these types dumb or just stupid? If you want to know what the average day-to-day Christian believes than read the Catechism. If you want to understand Christian Theology read Classical Philosophy starting with Plato followed by Church Fathers. In this schema, the Bible should be consulted as a reference guide. After the Church Fathers, it will behoove you to upgrade to Doctors of the Church such as Aquinas and Teresa of Avila.

Does this imply that the Bible has no practical readings? Not at all. When you read the OT, you should NOT approach the stories like a textbook and instead approach them like literature dealing with themes of God. The Psalms should be read as poetry. The Book of Job should be read like a Dostoevsky novel. Ecclesiastes should be read like philosophical treaty. DO NOT fall into the trap of a dry reading of the OT, because you'll get nothing out of it. This is where most normies fall flat.

As far as the NT is concerned, read it to understand the figure of Jesus.
