The philosophy of modern day art is to shock people no matter the cost. Gain attentions for its own sake. As banal as it seems this is primarily a result of the human population's exponential growth since the industrial revolution as is 90% of everything in the modern world. There's too many people and the world moves too fast. Not very long ago you, an individual, used to be 1 in a million now you're 1 in 8 billion. You can do the math. So you either have to be okay with nobody ever caring about you or you have to take the straightest no nonsense beeline to notoriety you possibly can.
