What are some books like this? I just finished reading it and I really loved it. I should mention I'm really new to sci-fi. I checked out the reccomended reads chart but I'd like something similar to this.

Hello /lit/,
I'm looking for a good present for my father who loves Scifi. So I was wondering if you could recommend something similar to Larry Niven's books.

Does the truth limit the possibilities of science fiction?

Picture related. Ring

Ringworld was a great novel and in my opinion the first was the best in the series, due to it's really extraordinarily imagery it was presenting which if scrutinized was not scientifically grounded but incredible fantasy.

Due to the bitching by fans, the author grounded the sequels which limited their potential.

Why can't scifi nerds accept the 'fiction' and just accept a certain about of suspension of disbelief?

Hey /lit/, let's talk about a book.

Specifically, Ringworld, by Larry Niven. A rich old eccentric, two aliens, and a sexy young girl go into the far reaches of space to explore a ring-shaped construct capable of housing life.

Sound familiar? Yeah, the 'Halo' games basically ripped this off hardcore. The book was written in the 70's, so there's no question about that.

I'm 1/4 in so far and enjoying it.

I want to start reading heavily into science fiction and fantasy, but dont know where to start, I've read Dune (just the first one),StarShip Troopers, most of Orson Scott Card's stuff, Ring world, LORT, The Dresden files, The Legend of Drizzet, and I've started reading The Malazan Book of the fallen series.

TL;DR, Good Science fiction and fantasy books
