Sorry but the example in question (>>14983446) is from Dracula (1897)

If that's not literature I don't know what is.

He decides to differentiate every working class ordinary man on the street that our characters meet from his "educated" narrator and Dracula, by making them borderline unintelligible caricatures. Just to prove how oh so smart and educated his lawyer or doctor or the Count characters are. Doesn't really work though. They just sound like pseudo intellectuals, and then you have to wade through pages of this when they talk to someone "ordinary"

is /lit/ man enough to admit that Bram Stoker's Dracula is a literary classic, genre fiction, pop literature, a seminal work, and highbrow fiction all pressed into one book?

I know you dorks usually like to pigeonhole these different terms in clownish (failed) attempts to appear smart so I'm curious as to whether your neurons are frying as you try to reconcile the fact that Dracula is indeed all of the above.

This was pretty good. What does /lit/ think of Dracula?

Does this get good at all after Harker's journal or can I safely read the footnotes and drop this shit? I'm at the part where a bunch of roasties are gossiping and it's fucking insufferable.

Reading this book now and it's the most generic vampire story I've ever read. It takes literally every single plot point from the 1992 Dracula movie.

Can we all agree that Dracula is the worst gothic/fantasy/science fiction novel of the 1800s? The first third or so is good, but it goes completely downhill after that.

Are there people here who hate this book? I want honest opinions. I don't want anyone to pretend to hate it if they don't actually, but I also sort of want to see someone trash it.

So how did Jonathan escape the Castle again? Unless I missed a page it seems he gets trapped in a room on the day Dracula promised him freedom and when he reappears he's mad trying to get home. No explanation as to what happened in between, surely Dracula didn't actually let him go?
