Long time lurker first time poster. Does anyone have any recommendations for a book on communism besides things written by marx or engles themselves. It's for a school assignment, I'm looking for something that's more oriented towards the influence of communism on western political thought as opposed to say, a case study on communist regimes or something like that. But both are appreciated !! Yes, I did check out the sticky. I just wanted a general consensus answer. Are there any works that are all encompassing on the effects (whether direct or indirect) of communist ideology in contemporary political thought/cultural thought?

I want to know what's what with Marxism but I don't want to read the whole of Das Kapital. What secondary text(s) should I read instead?

How bad should I feel for not contributing anything to society with how I earn a living when there are so many problems in the modern world that I could help with? It would directly go against my nature to live so, but I feel like it's my only choice by reason. What do?
