Gnosticism is a philosophy born out of pain and grief, it is a hysteria birthed out of love. The dismissal of physical existence is like a balm, it soothes the raging mind - but is it an oversimplification. Yes, there is suffering and injustice and pain, but it is pride and conceit to say that you know enough to condemn the world as a misstep. The truth is, that we know so little.
We are all in love with sin, vice and all manner of evil. We can't let go of them, so we let go of God instead. We deny him, say that he doesn't care about us, doubt his existence. And God doesn't stop out hand when it plunges into evil. The only thing that he does, is save us. God is patient, all we have to do is let him into our hearts.

Here, dear reader, you might try to find a flaw in this reasoning - a flaw in God. However, by the very definition God is the ultimate, the Alpha and the Omega. You want hidden knowledge, something new and shiny, an unknown entity - God is superior to all of them. The ideal Form of goodness, nay, of all the positive qualities that we don't even have a name for. All that you have ever loved points to him, all that ever bought you joy, he is the infinitely distant point that all the beauty you have ever seen points to. Perhaps, in Heaven we will be able to glimpse God - which would be the true Gnosis.

Peace is stagnation, sword is a revolution. It is a painful transformation, but nothing easy is worth doing - the sword is there to cut you into shape.

This is what most Christians don't get - they pray for salvation, to be happy, for the pain to stop, to get all those good things in life that they so desire. Meanwhile, original Christianity is all about picking up your own cross, and emulating Christ. Prepare for a world of pain and misery, that is if you've got the stones for it.
