Worst mother I ever read about, Jesus my mom is a saint compared to her. Two different people and Schopenhauer seems very alike to me with his personality and views towards life. If only we could switch mothers so he didn't have to suffer the hands of her and I don't have to suffer with losing a good mom.

Rest in peace Arthur, may your mom burn in hell.

Why does his book become truer and truer the more I grow up and see the world around me? I'm a zoomer and everything this man says speaks true about the reality of our world, I don't see things getting better even though we have the technology and better living standards. People still are depressed, unmotivated and angry nowadays. What the hell gives with this guy?

Schopenhauer was always the best philosopher for nihilism in a funny way.
Better to read him than some shithead like Nietzsche.

why do people take the principium individuationis so seriously? it is obviously an interesting idea, but it greatly misunderstood Kant's transcendental dialectic and thus entered into metaphysical dogmatism. why dont people mention this more often?

Schopenhauer was a god among men. This is my favorite philosopher by far, and I have read every single one of his works.

He's materialistic, has no concern for anything beyond the spiritual, and takes everything at face value. He's not an Übermensch, he's a woman.

>"And then, too, in the case of woman, it is only reason of a sort – very niggard in its dimensions. That is why women remain children their whole life long; never seeing anything but what is quite close to them, cleaving to the present moment, taking appearance for reality, and preferring trifles to matters of the first importance. For it is by virtue of his reasoning faculty that man does not live in the present only, like the brute, but looks about him and considers the past and the future; and this is the origin of prudence, as well as of that care and anxiety which so many people exhibit. Both the advantages and the disadvantages which this involves, are shared in by the woman to a smaller extent because of her weaker power of reasoning. She may, in fact, be described as intellectually shortsighted, because, while she has an intuitive understanding of what lies quite close to her, her field of vision is narrow and does not reach to what is remote: so that things which are absent or past or to come have much less effect upon women than upon men. This is the reason why women are more often inclined to be extravagant, and sometimes carry their inclination to a length that borders upon madness."

- Arthur Schopenhauer, On Women, Parerga and Paralipomena

>"With young girls Nature seems to have had in view what, in the language of the drama, is called a coup de théâtre (striking effect). For a few years she dowers them with a wealth of beauty and is lavish in her gift of charm, at the expense of the rest of their life, in order that during those years they may capture the fantasy of some man to such a degree that he is hurried into undertaking the honourable care of them, in some form or other, as long as they live – a step for which there would not appear to be any sufficient warranty if reason only directed his thoughts. Accordingly, Nature has equipped women, as she does all her creatures, with the weapons and implements requisite for the safeguarding of her existence, and for just as long as it is necessary for her to have them. Here, as elsewhere, Nature proceeds with her usual economy; for just as the female ant, after fecundation, loses her wings, which are then superfluous, nay, actually a danger to the business of breeding; so, after giving birth to one or two children, a woman generally loses her beauty; probably, indeed, for similar reasons.
>And so we find that young girls, in their hearts, look upon domestic affairs or work of any kind as of secondary importance, if not actually as a mere jest. The only business that really claims their earnest attention is love, making conquests, and everything connected with this – dress, dancing, and so on."

Their motherly instincts overrules any and all of their decisions in life. Schopenhauer put it best:
>"Because women in truth exist entirely for the propagation of the race, and their destiny ends here, they live more for the species than for the individual, and in their hearts take the affairs of the species more seriously than those of the individual."

>capitalism is bad
>communism is bad (and impossible)
>anarchism is bad (and impossible)
>religions just get replaced by other religions (science, humanism, ideology, etc.)
>life is inherently meaningless unless you make up a meaning (i.e. a cope, and you'll always know it's a cope)
>there's actually no true solution for anything
>suffering is inescapable
Are there any thinkers that call for the destruction of the human race as a whole? Schopenhauer was right about the human condition but he didn't go far enough.
