I generally agree with you, but at least acknowledge the utility in religion. People are animals that function better when well-trained, after all. Even critical thinkers will be better off having been raised in a society where a religion has successfully promulgated time-tested social strategies (which most people are too stupid to respect from a secular perspective).

There may come a future epoch when the downsides of religion outweigh its utility, but look around... This is not that time.
