I'm not that far into Gravity's Rainbow, but I don't seem to be enjoying it very much. It's a massive blow to my integrity to stop reading something once I've started, but there's at least twenty other books in my backlog that I'd rather be reading. Should I keep with it?

I'm about to start Gravity's Rainbow. I know /lit/ loves this book to death.
I wasn't really sure what to make of The Crying of Lot 49, and I've heard that GR is more dense. What's the best way to read this book? What should I pay attention to?

I finished part 1 of Gravity's Rainbow yesterday. So far I love how Pynchon incorporates aspects of engineering and physics into the book beyond the technical jargon or broad ideas. Of course, there's other aspects I love that aren't relevant to my question. Does anyone know of any works that do similar things but with biology/ the life sciences (excluding medicine/ pharmacology, please). I'm a biology major.

Pic related, it's the edition I purchased. I do want to say that I was surprised the cover was designed by Frank Miller. It doesn't seem like his work somehow.

Does it bother you to think about the face of the author while you're reading?
Have you ever avoided buying a book because it had a picture of the author on the cover?

Hey guys I just started reading and I have to admit that I'm a little confused. I'm about 1/5th of the way through and it is still pretty confusing with the way it is written. He just seems to sort of ramble a lot and I find it hard to take in everything he's saying. I know what is going on but I can't really get into it if you know what I mean. Is this normal for people's first time reading it? Am I just retarded? Do I have bad taste to begin with for even picking this book up to read? Is it something that needs to be read multiple times? Other thoughts?

So, is this, on one level, a book about the terrible subconscious of the white, American male?

This is the version I own and I find the book's exterior mesmerizing. Even if I'm not reading it I like to have it around me at home. Occasionally I'll fap to it.

Honestly, I would be less inclined to read it if it lookes like the technical manual for a piece of industrial equipment like in the Op

Hello /lit/. I recently made the mistake of purchasing Gravity's Rainbow which I have recently been made aware that this book is an extremely difficult read. I do enjoy "post-modern" literature a good deal but I think I should read a bit more elsewhere before attempting to tackle something this ambitious.

I have been told to check out Pynchon's 'V' before attempting to read Gravity's Rainbow and I have heard that Infinite Jest is similar in some ways but give me some other suggestions as to what else I should read that could maybe prepare me for what I might be getting into. Thanks.

ITT: books you feel most people just pretend to enjoy

Don't take it as an insult to the author/book but to certain elements of his fanbase.
