How the fuck do you shamelessly rip off Harry Potter and make it the dullest fucking shit?
How do you fuck up basic characterization, basic sentence sentence structure, basic story telling.
Why the actual fuck did I force myself to read 150 pages of this drek. Am I retarded. I can't even fucking remember who recommended this me, but I hope they suffer.

As someone who went through the AP rigmarole in high school, I 'get' the first half of this book, and think that maybe those who are infuriated by it never had first-hand experience with the kind of person that an excess of competitive standardized testing produces. The idea of magic being just another 'intellectual' rat race, a metaphor for the increasing rarefaction of an 'elite' crowd of students, hits hard, and don't ever believe that the people portrayed here don't exist. I feel a little but of an anti-institutionalized education here: it can even make magic depressing and awful.

Who's read this amazing work of literature. One of the greatest fantasy books ever written.

>Main toon is a complete whining idiot
>The books are disconnected somewhat
>IM GONNA BECOME SUPER DUPER MAGICIAN
>Start of next book: I quit magic
>5 pages later
>I started magic again
>5 pages later
>It's been 2 years and I haven't used magic

Not even talking how it is a really damn blatant Narnia copy with a touch of HP

It's well-written, interesting, subverts a lot of the genre standards, plays with meta frequently and doesn't feel stuffy.

Too bad it was written in Murka instead of some minor European country, I feel like a pleb enjoying Grossman.

So I just read all three of these books.

They are all fucking amazing.

I really want to write something else, but I feel drained. Three days of nonstop reading. Holy fuck, that was fun. Is his other stuff this good?

So what did you guys think of this book, and the second one?

I went through them in the span of a couple of weeks, and it was a fun ride, definitely one of the better modern fantasies. The story also has this real never-ending bittersweet feel to it and it kinda left me depressed. Not in a 'George R R martin writes brutal shocking scene #1853' way, but in a way that's honest and fair, and it seems like the author has really put his heart into it, and most of us can probably relate.
