What am I in for /lit/?

I just finished A Clash of Kings and am now starting A Storm of Swords.

I heard this series slows down/isn't as good "later on". Does that start with ASoS or am I safe until A Feast for Crows?

Also, the three horns that go off in the beginning = awesome. The Others are coming.

Jamie's hand, the Red Wedding, Sansa and Tyrion, Tyrion killing Lord Tywin in cold blood, after choking Shae, Joffrey choking at his wedding feast, and at the end, Littlefinger pushing lady Lysa out the Moon Door. Also Jon Snow holding the wall with 50 men against all the wildlings in the world.

So why didn't anyone tell me the second half of the book was going to be this intense? I feel disappointed that we wont hear anything about the north until GRRM decides to get off his ass and actually write. Also what happens with the hound towards the end?

So I just finished reading this. It's easily the best in the series. I know feast falls far short of it, and with dance unreleased it sucks that we don't know anything new about the north.

So I'm at the third book now. I must say, this shit is pretty epic. I am a tad disappointed with it in terms of dreariness (as the first book had some very haunting moments), but the plot twists have always been unforeseeable to me, so that makes it an enjoying read.

So without spoiling, do you like this series /lit/? Are there in your opinion, better fantasy books out there?
