This was a big nothingburger and totally lightweight. I read the first few chapters of 49 laws of power and they are basically the same thing.

The book is common sense stuff, nothing more and even then you can figure out reasons for and against everything. Machiavelli is extremely lucky to be a household name today.

And who can even all it shockingly amoral? Reading any book about history is more shockingly amoral. Any history book has mass murder and death and invasions within throwaway sentences. Meanwhile, Machiavelli: "Maybe just be a bit selfish, Teehee!" DEVILISH. It was not crushingly dull. I would compare it to reading a trite business management book.

I would recommend you still read it because after reading less than 100 pages you will truly learn how overrated something can be.
