Just got done with this.

Quite a bit of the writing, especially in the middle third of the book, has a dashed-off quality, probably the result of indifferent editing. Most annoying were repeated uses of "freaky"/"freakish" and "weird". There's also quite a bit of clumsy repetition when describing various large-scale cosmic phenomena. Wright has an extensive vocabulary so, again, I'm inclined to chalk this up to a combination of laziness and poor editing.

As throughout the series, far too much hinges on the Montrose/Rania relationship that Wright just can't make come alive.

A character from the first few books appears out of nowhere to play a significant part in the ending. Wright should have dropped some hints that the guy was still around in the past few books; that he didn't looks sloppy as hell.

Still, this was a great way to tie up the series, and the ending, despite my complaints above, was absolutely on point -- exactly what's needed to end a long series.

The sequels to this have actually been getting consistently better, so if you're on the fence about continuing the series after Count to a Trillion you should keep going.

SF: The Eschaton Sequence books by John C. Wright. Execution has some flaws but overall pretty solid. The last book comes out in December and I'm pretty hyped to see how it all ends.
