>someone is asking about Vance!

Yes, I have.
It's his finest work, in my opinion, although Lyonesse or Emphyrio seem to be the more common assessment among his fans.
Have you read anything by Vance yet?

Thank you, although you might as justly say, "nice obsession you have there" =D.
>Have you read his autobiography?
>I heard it's pretty much about everything except his writing
I have and that's true; it's more a summarized biography of himself. Even his own feelings on events he lists in his life are muted. My gut feeling is that he was intensely private, at least at secondhand distance. In any event, his travel recollections are mostly of the, 'we spent some time here and wrote this' variety rather than 'we went here, did this, I noted that which led to the idea of the witches of the Weirdlands.'

>You can probably reach John through the JV website too, though I gather he's quite busy...
Yes, so I would imagine and I'm loath to pester him when no doubt so many have asked and had these questions answered, not least the members of the VIE project. I also wonder how much, if I were in his shoes, I would enjoy strangers from the ether contacting me about my father's life while having little interest in my own.
