Gorgias was intellectually honest. Socrates as depicted by Plato was not, and was not in the worst possible way; see Socratic Irony. Plato had a greater understanding than he ever let on and by not speaking, only depicting performances, he escaped the need for intellectual honesty but could never shake his idealistic(colloquial sense) nature.

Be wary of Plato.
