I agree with this guy. You could make certain parts of The Silmarillion into a film, and the Children of Hurin would make a good film, but the whole Silmarillion, even as a miniseries/TV series would be terrible without making some massive changes.

I have no problem with Orwell's non-fiction, but I absolutely detest both 1984 and Animal Farm. Everything is too obvious and blunt. There are multiple interpretations of them; only what Orwell force-feeds you.

It's almost as those his fiction is an attempt to disprove the "death of the author"; which Orwell does a really good job of until you realise his novels are one-dimensional crap and don't deserve to be called novels.
