just finished this today, thought it was great, though i do wonder how it would've felt to read this in 1992, because the broad tech level is about what we have right now, besides some gizmos.

I felt the same way after the second book, took me a month to pick up the third one but I assure you it is worth it. It's definately the weakest out of the three, but still interesting in its own right, the cool ideas are still there its just that, atleast for me, the story itself is a bit meh and the main charachter is weird. Also I presume there are things lost in translation/are cultural chinese things, because some scenes dont feel quite right like the tea ceremony stuff.
Also his short story "Mountain" is super cute check it out
