What's /lit/'s opinion on this classic? Currently about half way through and I'm absolutely loving it.

Hello /lit/.

I consider myself somewhat lacking in the literary arts department. I haven't read many books, especially older books, so it was a real surprise when I picked this up randomly at the university library and found it extremely compelling.

The writing is so vivid and stylized, the symbolism and literary devices used throughout the novel are so deep and thought-provoking, and the theme was so immersive, that this might just be the best novel I've ever read.

So I'm here to ask for recommendations and suggestions on novels and short stories that you think I might enjoy.

For a little background, I highly enjoy 30s pulp authors like Lovecraft and Clark A. Smith, and other favorite works include 1984 and At The Mountains of Madness.

Is Moby Dick a good book? What can I expect from this?

200 pages in. Ugh.

Some paragraphs sing. Others are gag-inducing.

I want to finish but may not.

When does this novel get interesting?

While I can appreciate how beautifully it's written it's just so boring.
