Self-proclaimed newfag here. What do I read as an introduction to buddhist / eastern philosophy? In addition, what are some western works that supplement or discuss these?

I have a very basic conception of Buddhism and advaitan hinduism through some light pdf (and guenonfag's threads here) reading but not much beyond that.

Don't read self-help books or any author that claims to be the only one who REALLY knows what's going on (i.e. Gladwell). They're a waste of money at best, written only by people who are trying to take advantage of the desperate and the stupid.
