Ive been thinking about how beliefs work, and since theyre often immediate it stands to reason that theyre based on your subconscious associations. Now these associations are constructed by concepts you are made aware of through reading, conversation, etc. this means that if someone says something to you ie black people are dumb, you will start to subconsciously believe it because you have more and stronger instances of the association in your mind right?

Is this why people get so offended by dissenting views? Because they feel personally threatened by them? As though they could actually infect and poison their minds if they just hear and have to think about them too much?

When you say something to someone are you threatening their very psychic integrity?
