What's with the hyperindividualist capitalist American brand of Christianity? It seems extremely contradictory.

Is there a point to reading beyond entertainment? I started reading because I foolishly thought that the answers to all of life’s questions would be in these books I was reading or that the key to fulfillment and happiness would gradually dawn on me if I kept chipping away at the canon but really it hasn’t helped me at all. I’ve read a bunch of classics and philosophy but desu I don’t think I got much out of them aside from entertainment or food for thought. Still as lost as ever, anchored to this world with no real rhyme or reason. What do you lads get out of it?

I dont underatand all the fuss about premodern writers and how people on this board think there is nothing worth reading after them and nobody after them can be compared to them. whenever i read any premodern writer (lets say anyone before shakespeare) I get bored as fuck if anythng writing has improved much more since them joyce, proust, pessoa, musil, deleuze, bely, billy shakes, etc are all better and much more innovative then them.
