Fret not, dear Anon-kun, for Shaking that Ol' Spear of Humanity was the Rosicrusians' most deft department at the time—Francis B, and a plethora of others, worked their little fingers to bony spires under twill and ink, producing manuscripts that laid bare the secrets of the burgeoning Masonic enterprise, the allegiance to eternal life. Believe it or not, but Words, words, words hold the utmost importance to the ones who vie for your mind; Spells are cast, incantations put forth; reading the wrong thing at the wrong (or right) time can harbor dangers you couldn't imagine. For it all seems like

You've been under a spell for quite some time,
Scouring pages of the sublime, the divine,
Hoping to sparse some meaning, some respite
From myriad woes, indignant eyes that
Shoot strife so stinging to sinew; so you
Sit and ponder the years behind, the lofts
Below your floor—for under dusty boards
Hold the pipe and ironwork of Minerva,
The countless forays into the dark cell
Of thought, the torrential pang of Saturn's
Song, as time imbues you along, to
Your Lonely End. We tried, anon.

I read threads about this group read just before the new year, got excited, but forgot all about it. Sadly haven't even started. Is there any hope for me?

He is complicated and you can pick any of his books without any context since context will hardly make a difference. Except maybe for Vineland and Mason & Dixon, his books are in historically "normal" situations, though he'll also do constant time / spacejumps without any hint and completely change shit up (the most glaring example, I guess, being the omniscient-robot-duck in Mason & Dixon, I guess). With the Pynchmeister you're always in for a wild ride, is what I'm saying.

I met a strange old man on the A train in New York City, literary hub of the modern world. There sitting with hands folded in his lap was an old fella with khaki pants on and a big poofy jacket vocalizing (reading aloud). He was reading, rather unironically, The Sisterhood Of Traveling Pantalones. It was he and I and the squeaky wet boots of winter commuters and the stench of the homeless. Morning breath fogged the glass. I spoke out:
>Mister, hey! Mister! Are you who I think you are?
>No, he said, maneuvering the book over his face like a mask
>I am a large fan of your work.
Silence.
>C-can I have your autograph?
He pressed the book against his face with a great deal of force, as if trying to flatten his nose.
I dug into my satchel and removed a Great American Pomo Tome.
>W-will you s-s-sign my copy of this first edition of your greatest novel.
He now begins closing the Sisterhood of Traveling Pants on his head, as if to flatten his gigantic wombat ears.
And then, a sound. At first I thought it was He, speaking through Ann Brasharea’s Magnum Opus. It sounded like a click, like the muffled snap of fingers. I listened intently, stared at him quizzically.
>Click click click click
But it grew deeper
>Cluck cluck cluck cluck
It grew louder, almost too much to bear. I stood, I thought of asking him to stop.
>Mister, mister. Please, please stop d———-
And then, all of a sudden, the train derailed. Chaos. Twisting metal, the soul curdling shrieks women and children and vegans. All went dark as the derailed train scraped across the track. I smashed my head onto the handrail, I went dark.
When I awoke, He stood over me, mouth gaping wife, eyes rolled into the back of his gargantuan noggin.
>YUK YUK YUK YUK YUK
And then disappeared like a light fog before my very eyes.

>Reminds me of John Coltrane’s Ascension album, which for the entire album sounds like the band is warming up but never gets to play, but the elitist snobs just adore it.
